Jun 3, 2015

From what I've read and heard, it's an extremely difficult and dangerous task...

Unfortunately, the outlook seems pretty grim.

Steve,

http://www.chinanews.com/gn/2015/06-03/7319459.shtml

Steve,

Yueyin,

Yes, I agree. Indeed I noticed that the so-called "luxury" vessel looked extremely top-heavy. I remember the Korean MV Sewol had the same problem of instability, due to extensive modifications of adding hundreds of passenger cabins to the higher level decks.

Steve,

That was a disaster just waiting to happen. I don't see anything luxurious about it.

Apparently the renovation was driven by greed. And what were they thinking blocking the windows with headboards? Over here, it never would have passed a basic safety audit.

"Pharaoh" Misspelled Indeed Jun 6, 2015

Heard this in the news yesterday. But I guess it's okay since it's just a name.

http://money.cnn.com/2015/06/06/news/companies/american-pharoah-stud-fees/index.html

American Pharoah's biggest payday won't be on a race track, even if he wins at Belmont and takes the Triple Crown.

The big money will come from the stud fees he'll earn once his racing days are over.

That's an incredibly nostalgic song, one of my favorites. Thanks for the wonderful YouTube links, QHE.

How about that American Pharoah, eh? I was glued to NBC's coverage of the race yesterday.

Steve,

Me too... I was “super glued” to the Belmont Stakes coverage.

BTW, I just learned that Belmont Park has a history of early aviation shows and tournaments. Harriet Quimby, the first woman to gain a pilot's license in the United States, learned of the excitement of flight at the Belmont Park International Aviation Tournament on Long Island, New York in 1910; and in 1912, she became the first woman to fly across the English Channel.
